Wow! That was easily the most competitive contest we've ever run. The answers were so good, in fact, that our initial shortlist was SEVEN pages long! From there, members of our marketing department, community team and Age of Zombies level designers were brought in to vote for their favourite ideas.
There was no set criteria per se, but a number of obvious factors quickly came into play: originality, practicality and attention to detail being the most important. Submissions were slowly and reluctantly whittled down, until eventually we arrived at our winning entries.
As always, we’d like to thank each and every person who took the time to answer. Your creativity was inspiring, and picking just three winners was no easy feat. Alas, it had to be done, and here they are in all their glory. On behalf of everyone at Halfbrick: congratulations to Daniel, Victor and Patrick!
Theme: Underwater Exploration (Atlantis)
“Steakfries and his friends go diving, with full underwater gear. Imagine swimming through coral reefs. Having to fight zombie sharks, and evil zombie sirens. An Atlantis like underwater city can be found. With Greek style architecture, pillars and temples with beautiful sculptures, half broken. A group of electrical zombie eels could be cool. Or maybe a giant zombie whale. The big boss could be a Poseidon-like zombie boss.”
Theme: Pirate Era
“I have a suggestion for the next scenario you guys should add to Age of Zombies: it definitely should be in huge pirate ships, taken by zombies and sea monsters. The boss would be The Captain, a badass pirate with mid-range attacks (like throwing his hook, shooting his pistol or sending his parrot minion to battle).”
Theme: Retro Throwback
“I vote for the 1980s with a nice VHS distortion filter on the screen, lots of neon lights, great synth or rock music and a lot of references to great 80s horror/zombies movies like Return of the Living Dead.”
